Gripping melodic black metal from Groningen. Since 2021, Walg has combined blistering aggression and Dutch-language lyrics exploring human frailty with soaring, anthemic melodies.
Formed in 2021 in Groningen, the Netherlands by multi-instrumentalist and composer Robert Koning alongside vocalist and lyricist Yorick Keijzer, Walg (Dutch for “disgust” or “loathing”) has rapidly emerged as one of the most compelling forces in modern European melodic black metal.
Their music unites furious blast beats, razor-sharp riffs, and visceral Dutch-language vocals with soaring, anthemic melodic lines and atmospheric keyboard layers. Lyrically, the band delves deep into themes of misanthropy, human frailty, and existential despair.
Renowned for their remarkably prolific work ethic, Walg has unleashed a critically acclaimed full-length studio album every single year since their inception—spanning their self-titled debut “Walg” (2021), “II” (2022), “III” (2023), “IV” (2024), “V” (2025), and “VI” (2026). Having evolved from a studio project into a powerhouse live act, Walg celebrates their first-ever Swiss show at Clash of Gods Festival 2027.
