Grimner

Sweden’s Vikings Grimner meld Scandinavian folk music, Gothenburg-style death metal, and classic heavy metal, singing in their native tongue of Norse gods, history, and Swedish folklore.

Sweden’s Vikings Grimner deliver a unique mixture of folk and metal, melding Scandinavian folk music, Gothenburg-style death metal, classic heavy metal, and more into their own signature sound. With their dynamic, captivating music and energetic live shows, they have taken enthusiasts of many genres by storm. Singing in their native tongue of Norse gods, history, and Swedish folklore, Grimner promises a musical journey into fantastical realms of a time long past—both live and on record.

Created in 2008 in the Swedish town of Motala, Grimner has grown over the years into a strong group of six members. While their first demo “A Call For Battle” (2010) was sung in English, it was soon replaced by Swedish on their debut EP “Färd” (2012). With the release of their first full-length album “Blodshymner” (2014), Grimner steadily made a name for themselves in the folk metal scene and beyond.

In 2016, Grimner released “Frost Mot Eld” (Despotz Records), launching the band to greater heights. Receiving outstanding reviews worldwide and racking up millions of streams, the record set Grimner’s signature sound in stone and saw them touring across stages all over Europe. In 2018, the band celebrated their 10th anniversary with “Vanadrottning” (Despotz Records), followed in 2022 by “Urfader”—recorded with the acclaimed Top Floor Studios—which expanded their musical soundscapes while staying true to their roots.

Released on September 4, 2026, their latest album “Stormvingar” delivers exciting new compositions alongside three reimagined songs from Grimner’s past. Mirroring this blend of fresh energy and heritage, new members and brothers Anton and Axel Elowson bring their musical prowess alongside returning classic member Marcus Asplund Brattberg—continuing the saga with no intention of slowing down.
