Hailing from Lyon, DEATHAWAITS was founded in 2002 and started out with an aggressive Death Metal sound driven by Thrash influences on early releases “Out Of Adversity” (2011) and “Abominable” (2014). The title track of the latter notably found its way onto the soundtrack of the French blockbuster “Joséphine s’arrondit”.
With their third full-length “Solve Coagula” (2017), the band honed a harsher sonic edge, embarking on a 38-date run across France, Belgium, and Spain while supporting heavyweights like Aborted, Napalm Death, Sepultura, Exodus, and Misery Index. Following the critical praise of “Rapture Smites” (2019), the four-piece commemorated two decades of brutality in 2022 with an anniversary record featuring guest appearances by Riley McShane (Allegaeon) and Sebastian Grihm (Cytotoxin). This evolution steered their style into modern Death Metal packed with Hardcore grooves—ideal for fans of Misery Index, Malevolence, and Dyscarnate.
Recent EPs “Voracious Instinct” (2023) and “Hybrids” (2024) push their sound further into crushing Slam Death territory. Backed by appearances at renowned events like the Deathfeast open air, DEATHAWAITS is concluding an extensive touring cycle to unleash their sixth studio record, “French Bulldog Invasion”, in late 2026. A brand new era begins!
