Since erupting from Aarhus, Denmark, in 2015, BAEST has built a reputation as one of Europe’s most uncompromising and ambitious metal bands. Blending the raw brutality of death metal with the soaring energy of classic heavy metal, their sound is both familiar and forward-thinking. Across four studio albums—“Danse Macabre” (2018), “Venenum” (2019), “Necro Sapiens” (2021), and “Colossal” (2025)—the band has evolved from genre loyalists to fearless innovators.
Their most recent release, “Colossal”, produced by Tue Madsen (The Haunted, Heaven Shall Burn), marks a creative leap. Channeling influences from Judas Priest to Metallica and Whitesnake while retaining their extreme metal roots, BAEST coined the term “Ozzy death metal” to describe their hybrid sound. The album was met with rave international reviews: Metal Hammer Germany hailed it as “a colossal achievement,” Deaf Forever called it a “career highlight,” and Powermetal.de praised it for “breaking genre boundaries while putting joy front and center.” Their single “Misfortunate Son” (featuring ORM) and the stadium-sized “King of the Sun” (with D-A-D’s Jesper Binzer) exemplify this genre fusion, while tracks like “Stormbringer” and “Imp of the Perverse” show that their death metal core is alive and well.
BAEST’s lineup—Simon Olsen (vocals), Sebastian Abildsten (drums), Mattias Melchiorsen (bass), Lasse Revsbech (guitar), and Svend Karlsson (guitar)—has remained unchanged since their formation, feeding their powerful chemistry on stage. With over 350 shows behind them, the band has headlined clubs across Europe, played massive festival slots at Wacken Open Air, Bloodstock, Kaltenbach Open Air, and Copenhell, and toured with Krisiun, Abbath, Entombed A.D., as well as a major North American run supporting Arch Enemy and Fit For An Autopsy.
Honored with five GAFFA Awards and named “Artist of the Year” at Denmark’s Den Hårde Tone awards in 2024, BAEST rejects genre constraints in favor of raw energy, authenticity, and songwriting craft—a full-force metal entity breaking international ground.
